Coffee Album Launch Night // GRO Coffee Ayr // 25 Nov 2022

Attempting to be completely unbiased in my review of this album launch night, due to my involvement, I think I can speak on behalf of all present that it was an absolute success! Performers and audience alike were energised and touched by the variety of musical content presented making for an absolutely electric evening.

Scott Nicol performed all tracks from his album, available for streaming on Spotify, alongside the band including cajon, bass guitar, electric guitar, electro-acoustic guitar, violin and backing vocals to showcase his astounding lyrical and musical compilation talents alongside the talents of all other local artists and performers involved.

GRO Coffee Ayr supported the launch night providing the perfect fit of venue and ambience with the space, lighting and support from all staff in creating an evening, that was FREE to all to attend, fit for any reputable entertainment venue. Scott is a natural people person, full of life, energy, and friendly banter in creating an environment for all to be yourself. In Scott’s words, ‘we’re amongst friends’, making for an inclusive event where you can let loose and have a ‘bit of a knees up’.

This party and fun vibe of the evening was further enhanced by a competition Scott put out for all attendees to wear an item or dress within the theme of the event, album or one of the songs. Those enjoying the spectacle, both audience and those involved, came along with flip flops, summer dress, hats, sunglasses, stars, too many things to recall, in bringing the album alive through their small tokens of recognition from the albums’ songs and lyrics. Not to name any names, haha, but the overall winner of the competition was dressed as the man of the moment himself…..Scott Nicol! The sheer cheek of having done this won the generous prize that went to……drum roll…..me! Again, completely unbiased here, but it was such a fun addition to an already fantastic evening.

Scott’s engaging and soulful showmanship was followed by local artists performing their own versions of some of the tracks from the album as well as covers of other hit songs and original material. The evening was filled with enthusiasm and love for the artists and performers with an absolutely packed venue, where the audience were ignited by the music, singing along to tracks, dancing and clapping along in support of the local talent presented to them.

Scott is such a generous individual and this show was not just about promoting his new album, but also in showcasing other local talent, some of which who are already established artists and performers while others are part of Scott’s ‘Possibility Screams’ mentoring programme for up-and-coming musical talent of all ages. He provides a platform and space for new talent to grow and build confidence toward their own identity as a musician/artist.

The evening was a triumph and outstanding achievement for Scott Nicol, the ‘Greatest Showman’ of Ayrshire!

Following on from this review of the launch event, individual reviews of all the tracks on the album are underway in acknowledging the beauty and energy put in to each song…and if you have a listen to the album you will certainly appreciate this for yourself as it takes you on an emotive journey of joy, sorrow but an overall respect and love for life…the complete embodiment of Scott Nicol. Just ‘Loving life’ and supporting others to share in this feeling.
